Puslinch will benefit from joint federal, provincial and municipal funding to build a Multi-Use Recreational Facility, announced today by the Hon. Michael Chong, M.P., Ted Arnott, M.P.P. and Mayor Brad Whitcombe. This project is an example of all levels of government cooperating to stimulate the Ontario economy by reducing red tape, so that we can get shovels in the ground sooner and create jobs.

This project will build a Multi-Use Recreational Facility, enhancing services while creating local jobs and stimulating the local economy.

The governments of Canada and Ontario will each invest up to $ 716,328 in the project. The Township of Puslinch will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost of up to $2,148,983. The Optimist Club of Puslinch has taken a key role in initiating and supporting this project.

“This funding commitment reaffirms the importance of partnership in accomplishing significant change in our communities,” said Michael Chong, M.P. for Wellington-Halton Hills. He added, “Because we know our communities have immediate needs our government is accelerating the funding process to ensure that money flows faster and more efficiently.”

“I wish to congratulate the Township of Puslinch Council and Staff for working hard to establish the need for this project,” Wellington-Halton Hills M.P.P. Ted Arnott said. “We need to work together and continue to make substantial investments in new infrastructure, which will strengthen our economic competitiveness and protect our environment over the long term.”

“This is a very exciting announcement for our small community,” Township of Puslinch Mayor Brad Whitcombe said. “We appreciate the partnership the other levels of Government and locally with the Optimist Club.” “This a great investment that will create jobs and provide a facility that will be well used by our community.”

“The Optimist Club of Puslinch is elated with today’s announcement,” said Ken Williams, President of the Optimist Club of Puslinch. “We believe this type of facility is ideal for our community, especially our young people. We look forward to working with Council and the Recreation Committee to build and complete this project, a long term goal of the club.”

This project is one of 289 across the province that will soon break ground thanks to a federal-provincial-municipal investment of more than $1 Billion. The governments of Canada and Ontario have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted construction projects in Ontario Communities for the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
