Federal Funding for Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games

Chong announces support for Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games

FERGUS – Michael Chong, M.P. today announced an investment of $10,000 under the Government of Canada’s Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program, in support of the 69th Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games. This funding will allow the Festival to present performances and heritage demonstrations highlighting the culture and heritage of Scotland.

“I’m delighted to see the federal government’s ongoing support for the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games. Congratulations to the organizers and volunteers of the Festival on an event that not only contributes to the cultural and economic vitality of the area, but also fosters new traditions within the community,” said Chong.

The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games is a celebration of culture and history focusing on dancing, piping, clans, and family activities. The first Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games was held in 1946 and has now become a seven-decades-long tradition.

“With the assistance from the Department of Canadian Heritage, Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games is able to present a rich and diverse history of Scottish settlers in and around the Fergus community. Every attendee to the festival is a ‘Scot’ for a day, and the financial assistance has allowed visiting Canadians to enjoy Scotland without the airfare,” said David Radley, President of the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games.
