The Government of Canada is implementing a new electronic system to assist airlines in verifying that all travellers have the appropriate documents to travel to or transit through Canada. As a result, effective September 30, 2016, Canadian citizens with dual citizenships will be required to show a valid Canadian passport in order to fly into Canada.

Currently, Canadian citizens with dual citizenships can use either of their passports to fly into Canada as long as they can provide a proof of residency in Canada, such as a driver’s license or a Canadian citizenship card.

If you need to get a passport quickly (10 days or less), the quickest option is to take proof of travel with you to a Passport Canada office. Extra fees apply for expedited service.

The closest Passport Canada offices are in Kitchener (40 Weber Street East, Kitchener, Ontario, N2H 2L5) and Brampton (40 Gillingham Drive, Unit 401, Brampton, Ontario, L6X 4P8).
