Ottawa, ON – On Tuesday, May 17th, the Hon. Michael Chong, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs held a meeting with H.E. Reem M. AlKhaled, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait, about Canada-Kuwait relations.

MP Chong highlighted several items with the Ambassador, including:

  • MP Chong’s appreciation for Kuwait hosting Canadian Armed Forces’ members.
  • Conservatives’ belief that Canada can play a constructive role in the Middle East, with respect to matters such as diplomacy, military, climate change, and foreign aid.

H.E. Reem M. AlKhaled and MP Chong discussed Canada’s partnership with Kuwait, regional stability issues, and the growing threats of terrorism around the world. They also recognized the 7,000 Canadians living and working in Kuwait, in areas such as education, hospitality, and health, as well as the 700 Kuwaiti students and their family members in Canada. The Ambassador expressed her deep gratitude for Canada’s strong position against the invasion of Kuwait over 30 years ago and highlighted Kuwait’s desire to expand its investments in Canada. They agreed to continue the dialogue on Canada-Kuwait relations.
