Ottawa, ON – On Thursday, May 19th, the Hon. Michael Chong, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with H.E. Wadee AlBatti, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, about Canada-Iraq relations.

MP Chong highlighted several items with the Ambassador, including:

  • Conservatives’ belief that Canada, being a large oil and natural gas producer globally, can work with Iraq on issues concerning energy development.
  • Conservatives’ support for Parliamentary Friendship Groups, which play a key role in fostering relations between countries as well as the exchange of ideas and expertise.

H.E. Wadee AlBatti and MP Chong discussed the partnership between Canada and Iraq, investment opportunities in the middle east, and the economic potential of Iraq’s oil and gas sector. They also discussed Iraq’s relations with Turkey. They agreed to continue the dialogue on Canada-Iraq relations.
