ROCKWOOD \u2013 Aujourd\u2019hui, Michael Chong, d\u00e9put\u00e9 de Wellington\u2014Halton Hills, a assist\u00e9 \u00e0 la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie de cons\u00e9cration du c\u00e9notaphe de Rockwood (Ontario).<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Ce monument rend hommage au service et aux sacrifices des hommes et des femmes de l\u2019endroit qui ont servi dans la Premi\u00e8re et la Seconde Guerre mondiales et la guerre de Cor\u00e9e, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 M. Chong. Je suis tr\u00e8s fier d\u2019\u00eatre ici aujourd\u2019hui afin de r\u00e9inaugurer ce c\u00e9notaphe nouvellement reconstruit.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0Les c\u00e9notaphes et monuments construits partout au Canada sont l\u00e0 pour nous rappeler avec solennit\u00e9, mais aussi avec force, les sacrifices consentis par les v\u00e9ritables h\u00e9ros de notre nation. Nous devons pr\u00e9server l\u2019h\u00e9ritage de nos anciens combattants et faire en sorte que leur importante contribution \u00e0 notre histoire militaire trouve l\u2019expression de la reconnaissance des jeunes g\u00e9n\u00e9rations, a poursuivi M. Chong. Le gouvernement a promis d\u2019honorer les anciens combattants canadiens ainsi que les hommes et les femmes courageux qui servent encore notre pays.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Le gouvernement du Canada a vers\u00e9 au comt\u00e9 de Guelph\/Eramosa une aide financi\u00e8re de 33\u00a0060\u00a0$ dans le cadre du programme communautaire de monuments comm\u00e9moratifs de guerre d\u2019Anciens Combattants Canada pour permettre d\u2019effectuer un ajout important au c\u00e9notaphe de Rockwood et de le reconstruire. Le projet comprenait la d\u00e9molition et le remplacement de l\u2019escalier et l\u2019ajout de cl\u00f4tures, de murs de sout\u00e8nement, d\u2019une plateforme de b\u00e9ton autour du monument et de rampes d\u2019acc\u00e8s pour fauteuils roulants.<\/p>\n

Les demandes dans le cadre du programme communautaire de monuments comm\u00e9moratifs de guerre peuvent \u00eatre soumises \u00e0 tout moment pendant l\u2019ann\u00e9e et sont examin\u00e9es chaque trimestre. Les groupes sans but lucratif et autres organismes que cela int\u00e9resse peuvent \u00eatre admissibles \u00e0 du financement pour \u00e9riger de nouveaux monuments comm\u00e9moratifs ou faire des ajouts importants \u00e0 des monuments existants.
