Culinary activist Anita Stewart appointed to Order of Canada for outstanding achievements in Canadian food and cuisine<\/strong>

\nFERGUS \u2013 Wellington-Halton Hills M.P. Michael Chong congratulated Elora resident Anita Stewart for her appointment to the Order of Canada, announced on December 30th, by Governor General David Johnston. Anita was recognized for her significant contribution to Canadian culture, including her promotion of the Canadian food industry and advocacy of locally-produced foods.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnita has made an exceptional contribution to food and cuisine in Canada. I am proud that the contributions of a local resident are being recognized through the Order of Canada. It is a momentous honour and achievement,\u201d Chong said.<\/p>\n

For over three decades, Anita has studied and promoted Canadian cuisine. She is a cook, journalist and author of several culinary books, including Anita Stewart\u2019s Canada – The Food, The Recipes, The Stories, which received Cuisine Canada\u2019s Gold Award. In June 2011, Anita received a Doctor of Laws (Honouris causa) from the University of Guelph, and she served as the 2011 Ontario Food Ambassador. Anita is currently the President of Flavours of Canada.<\/p>\n

The Order of Canada was established in 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as Canada\u2019s honours system. It recognizes people in all sectors of Canadian society for a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
