FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Michael Chong, MP for Wellington-Halton Hills, today released the following statement regarding the Liberal government’s plan to collect Canadians’ personal financial information. The government is demanding that banks and credit card companies hand over Canadians’ detailed personal financial information without their consent.
“Canadians’ personal financial information belongs to them. They have a right to know when it is being accessed and for what purpose. The government’s proposed new Personal Information Bank is a concerning intrusion into the private lives of individual Canadians.
“Protecting the personal information of Canadians is essential to maintaining trust in government. I am calling on Prime Minister Trudeau and the Liberal government to make sure this proposal does not proceed in order to protect the privacy of Canadians.”
