Ottawa, ON On Wednesday, October 14, 2020, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Chong held a phone call with Minister and Chargé d’affaires Ohad Nakash Kaynar, Deputy Head of Mission for the Embassy of Israel in Canada, about Canada-Israeli relations.

Chong highlighted several items with Minister Nakash Kaynar, including:

  • Canada’s longstanding ties to Israel and support for Israel since its founding in 1948, and its right to live in peace and security with its neighbours. Conservatives value this relationship and look forward to continued friendship and collaboration.
  • On behalf of Conservatives, Chong congratulated the Deputy Head of Mission Kaynar on the achievement of The Abrahamic Accords between the State of Israel, United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  • Chong reiterated Conservative leader Erin O’Toole’s commitment to formally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and move the Canadian embassy to Jerusalem.
  • Chong also reiterated Conservative support for Israel’s inherent right to defend itself and that Conservatives will always defend Israel’s interests at the United Nations.

Minister Nakash Kaynar congratulated MP Chong on his appointment. They discussed the on-going conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, The Abrahamic Accords, and the Inter-Parliamentary Task Force to Combat Online Antisemitism led by Canadian and Israeli parliamentarians.
