Ottawa, ON – On Friday, October 23, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Chong held a phone call with H.E. Jamal Abdullah Al-Sallal, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to Canada, about Canada-Yemen relations.

MP Chong highlighted several items with the Ambassador, including:

  • Conservatives’ support Yemen’s recognized government and the territorial integrity of Yemen.
  • Chong noted that Yemen is the seventh largest recipient of Canadian aid.
  • Conservatives’ desire to see a resolution to the conflict in Yemen, thereby strengthening regional stability.

H.E. Jamal Abdullah Al-Sallal congratulated MP Chong on his appointment and thanked him for the Conservatives’ continued support for the Republic of Yemen. H.E provided an update on the ongoing conflict in Yemen and Iran’s role in it, and they discussed how Canada could cooperate with Yemen by drawing on Canada’s experience with federalism.
