FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON – On Thursday, December 3, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Chong held a phone call with H.E. Konstantina Athanassiadou, Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Canada, about Canada-Greece relations.
MP Chong highlighted several items with the Ambassador, including:
- Canada’s close and friendly ties to Greece.
- Conservatives’ desire to build on the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement with the European Union, of which Greece is a member, to increase trade and investment between Canada and Greece.
- Conservatives’ belief that Canada must work with other liberal democracies, including Greece, and with multilateral entities like the European Union, to build a common front to counter rising authoritarianism
H.E. Konstantina Athanassiadou thanked MP Chong for Conservatives’ continued support for close bilateral relations and for Conservative leader Erin O’Toole’s recent meeting with EU ambassadors. They discussed the challenges in the eastern Mediterranean and agreed to continue the discussion in the new year.
