Ottawa, ON – On Thursday, December 10, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs Michael Chong held a phone call with H.E. Souriya Otmani, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Canada, about Canada-Morocco relations.

MP Chong highlighted several items with the Ambassador, including:

  • The positive bilateral relations that Canada and Morocco share.
  • The cooperation between Canada and Morocco in numerous areas.
  • Conservatives’ belief in Africa as an increasingly populous and prosperous continent with many opportunities to expand bilateral relations.

H.E. Souriya Otmani and MP Chong discussed Canada’s diplomatic presence in Africa, the Western Sahara and the Canada-Morocco Parliamentary Group. They also discussed Canada-Morocco cooperation in the areas of la Francophonie, training, human rights, trade, and security, including the role that Canada and Morocco have played in chairing the Global Forum for Counter Terrorism. They recalled Prime Minister Harper’s trip to Morocco in 2011 and Foreign Affairs Minister Champagne’s trip earlier this year.
