Ottawa, ON – On October 25, 2022, the Hon. Michael Chong, Conservative Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Taiwan Representative Harry Ho-jen Tseng of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada about Canada-Taiwan relations.

MP Chong highlighted several items with Representative Tseng, including:

  • Conservatives’ belief that the Government of Canada’s forthcoming Indo-Pacific strategy must acknowledge the threats from the People’s Republic of China (PRC).
  • Conservatives’ concern about the military threat from the PRC, and that Canada must be prepared for any eventualities.

Representative Tseng and MP Chong discussed the current situation in Taiwan. They explored other ways in which Canada can support peace and security in the Taiwan Strait. MP Chong highlighted Russia’s war in Ukraine and possible parallels with Taiwan. Representative Tseng and MP Chong agreed to continue the dialogue on Canada-Taiwan relations.
