Senate of Canada Red Passes National Urban Park Act to Create Canada’s First National Park Urban, Protect Thousands of Acres of Land

OTTAWA – Michael Chong, Member of Parliament (Wellington-Halton Hills), today, thank you for their consideration and passage of Bill C-40, the Rouge National Urban Park Act .

The Rouge National Urban Park Act will provide Parks Canada with the necessary tools to ensure the highest level of protection for the ecosystems, wildlife, flora, fossils, artifacts and other natural and cultural resources of Canada. Park. Parks Canada’s mandate also includes the promotion of the park’s dynamic agricultural community and historical evidence of the evolution of the park.

« It is important that the Province of Ontario live up to its commitment in the Memorandum of Understanding, signed in January 2013, to transfer 9,000 acres of provincially-controlled land to Parks Canada, » said Chong. « With the passage of the Red National Urban Park Act, the Red Separation Line will have an unprecedented level of environmental protection under the direction of Parks Canada. « 

The Government of Canada has committed $ 149.7 million for the first ten years of the Rouge National Urban Park, and $ 7.6 million thereafter. This funding will be used for operations and park conservation and restoration activities.
